It is so hard to try and stay focused on the work in progress when you are selling your house, buying another, packing to move and trying to figure out what and how to de-clutter before you move. Throw in a day job, a couple of teens with busy schedules and that writing focus disappears out the window.

I want to write. Truly I do. But it aint happenin’ right now.

Instead, I’m getting rid of as much unnecessary “stuff” as I can before the real packing starts, and I must say, that part of the process feels damn good! I could get addicted to de-cluttering.

I shredded one whole filing cabinet full of papers. I gave away every piece of clothing I hadn’t worn in two years – and there were lots, I can tell you. I had some old favourites in there from the eighties, believe it or not! None of which fit now, of course. And even if they did, well, those padded shoulders are just so wrong!

Vases, old folk art paints, bean bags, you name it, I’ve been giving it away. But now its time to start the real packing. Somehow, I also have to find the time to write a little each day, so I don’t lose the momentum of the story. But it’s hard!

Can’t wait to get into the new place where I’ll have my very own writing nook, with built-in desk, and a little window with a peaceful view of trees. Right now I dream of meditation, a good back massage, and everything neatly in its place. And of having the time, space and inclination to write. Masterpieces, of course.

It will be worth it.

Jen :-)
